Completing MBA from a well known B-School is not an easy task you need to put in a lot of hard work and devotion. Below you will see a few myths that often people have about doing an MBA

MBA can be done by anyone

Possibly those who want to complete their MBA can complete it from one of the many poor quality MBA programs available. But if you want to have an MBA Degree from a school of high repute then you have to be ready for the hard work and devotion towards achieving it. This is not that easy as people think. You have to work for many hours a day to make yourself ready for this challenge. You have to compete with lakhs of students who have put the same or more effort than you.

Are all MBA Schools good?

If you think that an MBA will help you to move further in life, grow in your career and have your salary increase, you may be right to an extent. Because of this MBA Degree you may get the job with good salary, but to grow and have your salary increase is totally in your hands. You will have to work even more hard than you did while studying an MBA Program. There are no free lunches. You will get paid for what you do. If you think getting a job is enough, then you are highly mistaken. You have to perform to show your skills and prove that you are worthy that salary and the increase and you are worthy being on a higher post. Secondly, it is also important that you have done your MBA from a B-School of high repute.

Having an MBA Degree guarantees growth in career.

Having an MBA Degree from a reputed college or institute will help you get a good job, but it will not guarantee your growth. You need to put in a lot of hard work and dedication to reach your goal and grow in your career. As I said earlier no free lunches, therefore no will give you a growth till you have made the company grow with your skills and ability.

Does an MBA Guarantee a high salary?

An MBA Degree will fetch you a good job but it will not guarantee that you will also get a high salary. As Growth is not guaranteed in the same way even high salary is not guaranteed. You have to work very hard and make the best decisions to bring profit to the company and make it grow in the market. You need to put in a lot of hard work and if done no can stop from your salary being increased.

MBA Programs are expensive

Yes, if you want to do your MBA from a good MBA College it will cost a little more than the others but the return on your this investment will be momentous and much higher than you would invest to study form a college with less fee and low repute. Doing any degree is investing for a better future and here you are investing in a master’s degree that too form a good college then the returns are for sure going to be very high.

Experienced business people don’t need to do an MBA

It is very necessary to be updated with the knowledge and the new ways of doing things in business. You will usually hire a person and pay him a higher salary for the things you don’t know, but if you had the skills then you would just require training someone and paying less. Self development is very important to enhance oneself and usually the bosses sulk on those people who do not improve their skills. Agreed that, an MBA is not a requirement to succeed in business however possessing an MBA Degree will add knowledge and enhance the chance of succeeding much more higher.

Unitedworld School of Business is formed by a group of India born economists, academicians and top executives, offers MBA in Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Hyderabad.  This B school provides 1-2 Years full-time MBA programs with India’s first multilayer placement cell. It offers MBA in Marketing, HR, Information Systems, International business, Retail Management, Agribusiness,Media, Entrepreneurship and Finance.

What are the chances of getting an abstract topic? What should be the answer to ‘Why do you want to join the MBA Course’? Can we start an essay with a punch line? Any instant way to prepare since few weeks is left? How to deal with stress interviews?…These were some of the questions that were put forth by GD-PI call getters on the MBAUniverse.com Live Chat, held on Friday, February 11, 2011 with IIM Ahmedabad student Rahul Mahadevan.

With few days left for the GD, PI, Essay Writing rounds to begin at B-schools everyone is looking for an answer to their questions. Rahul, a member of the IIMA GD-PI Mentorship Programme, answered all the queries with ease. We bring to you the answers to the key questions.

Excerpts from the Live Expert Chat:

Q: Seema: Hello Sir! I had attended the GD in a private B School last year. They asked me ‘Why do you want to join the MBA Course?’ I know this is standard question but what is the proper answer according to you?
A: Hi Seema, there is no correct answer to such a question. All I can suggest from my side is to be logical in your answer, such that it fits into your background. It could range from wanting to shift your stream due to interest, to having a plan to start your own business one day. Think about where you are presently, where you want to be in five years or 10 years, and fit your answer accordingly.

Q: Sohan: How to cope up with speaking hesitation?
A: All I can tell you is that you should not worry about speaking hesitation. There are quite a few people who come to IIM and have trouble in expressing their views, in spite of having an extremely good thought process and flow in logic. The course here helps you in overcoming any inhibitions. Just be confident and I am sure you will do well in clearing the interview!

Q: Saurabh: In a previous chat of MBAUniverse.com, a student mentor from IIM K had suggested that we can start essay writing with a punch line. What is meant by punch line? How to practice for the same? Please suggest.
A: I cannot completely comment on what someone else has said, I can just tell you some of the elements of a good essay. You would ideally want to catch the attention of the viewer right at the start. In this regard, a ‘punch line’ might help. Some of the other things that I personally feel are important, is to have a structure. These must be in a lucid flow. It is also good to discuss differing points of view and come up with a recommendation at the end, if possible. To have a complete essay does help, so make the most of the allotted time for the essay as well.

Q: Sohib: Please tell me about the DOs %26DON’Ts during GD PI. I know this is a common question, but an answer from you will really help me sir.
A: Firstly, to clarify, there was no GD for IIM Ahmedabad last year. As regards the PI, there are no real do’s and don’ts to a Personal Interview. One must have a set of strengths, and a good interview is one where you can lead the interviewer to your strengths. At the same time, it is good to be prepared on all fronts, including academics and work experience (if present) because the interviewer tries to put one in an uncomfortable spot. There is always a time given to an interviewee at the start of the interview to make their pitch, and I feel it is important to make the most of this time.

Q: Keval: I am from B.Tech background. I don’t have habit of reading, so my worry is how to give a decent performance in GD %26 Essay? Any instant way to prepare since few days are left!
A: There is no shortcut method to anything, so I wouldn’t suggest an instant way to show something that one already is not. Rather what I would suggest is to focus on your strengths, be it academics, or a particular subject, or even quizzing. In any case, brush up on your academic fundamentals when it comes to the IIM A interview and be prepared for a small amount of pressure. And don’t worry, a very high proportion of the community coming to IIMs doesn’t have a habit of reading so you are in safe company! Just be calm and give the interview, I’m sure you will do well!

Q: Sanjiv: How to deal with stress interviews? I have heard that some interviewers create unpleasant situations like asking questions on personal failures and demand explanation which often de-motivates a candidate. How to deal with it?
A: The idea of a stress interview is to test your resistance or performance under stress. Therefore though there is no preparation for questions of this kind, a good check is to make sure throughout the interview that one is staying calm and not arguing back. It is a good idea in conditions of extremely difficult questions to take a minute and then start answering.
